They need agressive porting. Don't be shy, but also keep the intake port flange opening to a 1205 gasket size. Many get carried away here. The big gains are deeper in the ports.

WebDec 14, 2009 · The 305 heads are good for a little boost in compression but the ports won't support much airflow velocity from 2800-4500 rpm. They are better than the TBI heads though. Aftermarket heads would be an improvement or go with the Vortec conversion for 88-95 TBI engines that GM performance or Scoggins Dickey offers.
